Consumables in Raid
« on: 21 August 2007, 02:52:10 pm »
One thing i've really noticed of recent in our raids is that we are running very short on....well everything. The idea of having a consumables char is a great one but I think at the moment the responsibility of keeping this character sticked is falling on too few people.
Now all our kara money goes to Karazhania at the momment, and we're still not breaking even so i'm making a suggestion that we all try and pitch in a little to help us keep the stocks inflowing.

If your a blacksmither you can make runes of warding, LWers can make drums to use in battle, anyone with herbalism could go out and get some herbs so we don't have to buy them, alchemists can throw extra potions to karazhania. Even if you dont have these trade skills, anyone can take up fishing and cooking to supply consumables. If all of this sounds like to much work then maybe a simple weekly amount of gold sent to karazhania would suffice. (If we're lucky and get some good thursday runs going, we can clear opera event and trash and all donate that gold to karazhania too)

I say this to get us in good habits of going in to places fully prepared and to make things easier for everyone by all doing a little to help.

I will quite happily make some runes of warding - if the damn eternium would drop.

I believe the only way to make this work is that EVERYONE come prepared with what they need in ways of consumables.

Example for warlock from SOTF forum:
Consumables (Must have or you will not be allowed on the raid):

20x Heavy Netherweave Bandage
and
5x Super Mana Potion
and
5x Super Healing Potion
and
20x Soul Shard (ideally more)
and
25golds worth of Repair Money

Reccomended Consumables:

1x Superior Wizard Oil (5 charges)
and
10x Adepts Elixir (Battle)
or
10x Elixir of Major Shadow Power (Battle)
and
Elixir of Major Fortitude
or
Elixir of Empowerment
and
Poached Bluefish
or
Crunchy Serpent
or
Blackened Basalisk

I can see no reason to not supplying your own consumables either by crafting or buying. If possible, get the mats and get a guildie to craft, but it's up to each member.

The only reason I can find to not do this is if you're not planning on going to a raid and get urgently invited.

I believe myself and Mags can cook practically everything, so if any of you guys pick up :

Chunk 'o' Basilisk
Jaggal Clam Meat

I will quite happily cook them and send them to Karazania.

On the fish side of things i generally try and have a proper fishing session on the weekends and then send everything to the bank.

unfortunately the only good caster food we have ( so i believe ) is the blackened basilisk stuff and i cant fish that !!!

I would tend to agree with Fellon in respect to supplying anything that you can of your own, however, there are characters in the raid who are still able to benefit from basic dungeons run or possibly a heroic or two which will improve their gear. This being the case, I would rather that those with lower end gear (say any green on them without a good reason for it) will be better off concentrating on gearing up whilst the rest of the raid works on getting consumables.

The real reasoning behind this is that we have an update coming up with a new 10 man instance which is somewhat harder than Kara, nit to mention all of the 25 man content and I would love for us to experience it all, problem being that I cant play as your characters for you to get better stuff, so i'm personally doing all I can to move us all on, with the hopes that we will try new stuff.

+Healing: Golden Fishsticks (Terokkar)
+STA: Spicy Crawdad (Terokkar - only some places), Feltail Delight (Terokkar)
+AGI: Grilled Mudfish (Nagrand)
+mp5: Blackened Sporefish (Zangarmarsh)

I'd like to support Mags comments about improving Rep and gear.

As I've said on a few raid comments now its not the best 5 that are slowing down in Karaz it's the weaker 3 or 4. If  our stronger players are doing heroics and Kara runs that's fine but what we need is 25 level 70's who have done every quest and are honoured with all the right factions.

Aye without being horrible, we have a few charters who perform consistently worse than the rest in raids and I want every player in that raid to be able to challenge for no. 1 DPS. I know for a fact none of you are idiots so it's gotta be gear or a wrongful use of spells to not maximize damage output and I can moan about your gear but I cant really tell you how to play your class!

I understand that we have different priorities etc, but it just seems a bit complex and inefficient to have a guild-machinery for supplying raiders with consumables. There is no way making sure we really have what everyone needs.
I'm extremely happy when given a flask of super-duper power, but it's not that entirely necessary.

It just seems so much easier that everyone takes reponsibility for their own needs.
The bottomline, I guess, is
* responsibility - everyone can remember to bring the ammo, reagents etc etc that they need. If anyone needs help with a shoppinglist, I'm sure the class leader can help with that.
* GOLD - is this possibly the biggest problem? If you can't afford to buy the stuff you need and don't have the time to farm. Time = Gold. What to do? Guild tax to take from the rich and  give to the poor?

It's a great point Fellon. Ironically Jarlene has hardly ever had anything from the guild bank apart from keeping some leather after a Kara raid. This is partly because Hunters don't really need much but also because I prepare for each run. I buy (and often use) 10 mana & 10 health potions before every Kara run. I use mostly the Mana ones. Which means each run, with repair bills, costs about, 15-40g per run.

I spoke to Gurge (John) about this and he said it is the price you pay - it's pretty much unnavoidable. And of course it is a bit frustrating when you can see that some players are less enthusiastic about using up resourses along the way.

I played with another guild once and the way they did it was that guild resourses were only ever used if they kept losing one particular fight - only then was the equivilant of Krazania bought in.

I agree with Fellon that people should support themselves. I would re-iterate however that lots of easier 5 man runs is another way forward for the guild. I know that 4 or 5 players are frustrated because that means less loot and they would rather do heroic. It's really their call.

Re poorer players - I think its a matter of the class leaders coaching where they can. We need, amongst the class leaders, to occasionally have a chat and see how we could do that. This is best done by Team Speak.

Well the major points being made here are correct, and it would be great if everyone was able to supply everything the needed themselves but not everyone has the time to do so and I guess thats where the points of view kick in.
At the end of the day we are not a hardcore raiding guild but I would like to think everyone wants to get the most out of their character so please do what you can to improve the raid, if your gear is awesome get mats and stuff for raid consumables, if your gear is naff get better gear. Everyone doing something to make our raid prosper is what i'm after and if that means I have to fish for others then I guess i'll have to  :D

Hmm, I don't see the problem here.

We have a section on the forum where it says what you should bring with you (least amount).
Read it and comply!!

And for the gold, if you can raid Karazhan you are bound to have a flying mount; go do the daily quests. 15 minutes= 12g, 1 hour=50g

50g will get you a long way when it comes to getting comsumables for one raid.

Then there is another side to it, we do have all our downed bosses more or less on farm status so now the participants actually MAKE gold from raiding.

For LW and tailors Karazhan can be a great resource to get mats for skillups, just ask Magorian ingame and he will sort it our fairly. Byrak will get richer and the crafters skills for free or at a very low cost.
