Is anyone thinking of playing this?

Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning

if so European or American?

I'm a  bit "Meh" about it.
Yet another Fantasy MMO
They butchered the character classes to get the game out on time.
I always preferred 40K meself

Aye ditto on this one, I got a lot of friends who play their 40k and cos it's got warhammer written on it they may give it a go. We shall see I guess, based on a few things I saw at games day it looks like a wow rip off though

And Wow was Everquest with the fiddly bits chopped off ;)

Any game now that tries to enter the High Fantasy arena is going to be compared to WoW, partially because they took a lot of ideas from previous games and mostly because it's a frickin behemoth that dominates that section of the market.

The Warhammer back story is the one thing that could possibly 'beat' Warcraft, it's had 25 years or so to get it's act together and they've been producing source material for most of that time

I'll be doing a fair bit once the immediate painting comps are out of the way this weekend

I'm tempted to join everyone if only for a short while to give it a go.

Further reading suggest that there is very little PVE content, and to get the best stuff, raid equivalent in wow, you will have to PVP. I guess it could be quite good if everyone is doing it. I'll give it a chance to get going then maybe get a trial of something

I tend to sniff around these new MMOs. I've heard very little about this one save a quick conversation with Swifty.
I think there is tonnes of potential for good stuff here and I might give it a go.
A weekend blitz might be called for.

Speaking of (relatively) new MMOs. Who's playing Conan right now?  I've just started that and it seems to offer a lot of potential.

(Sorry Riprend I should point out this is a Warhammer thread so please take note of his question at the start of this thread)

I've been playing WAR quite a bit during the last few days and I'm actually pleasantly surprised. I didn't expect much, having seen AoC fail miserably in my book, but it's above expectations so far. I don't think the end game will be as big and rewarding as in WoW but the levelling up process and the adventure is definately more fun.

Levelling up my first char in WoW was just boring most of the time. "Kill X of that, collect Y of those" etc. There's a lot more going on in WAR and since you get quite a lot of exp for PvP and doing BG's (called scenarios here) you have a lot of alternatives to make it more varied and feel less of a stretch.

Can't comment on class balance/diversity and wether it will still be fun as you reach end game though. But for now I feel it's a nice change of pace. I have a few destruction characters on the Eltharion and Isle of Dreams servers. Both are Open RvR which is the same as PvP servers in WoW. Isle of Dreams seems to have less queues though so that's probably where I will play. You are all very welcome to join me there of course :)
Or, if you prefer a "Core" (PvE) server I could probably be persuaded to go there as well.

I'm liking it so far.
I'm on Burlok - as destruction with some friends (rp server) and Finuval Plain - Order (RvR)
Destruction seems to outnumber order by a good margin.

Don't know if you found a good guild for destruction on Burlok, the Eurocore guys seem to have joined this lot, founded by an ex EC member that no longer plays CoH but still frequents the EC forums.

I read some reviews most say beta crap - lessons learnt - game good.
Evidently there's more emphasis on fun that WoW - less grinding, epic hunting etc....

But one review said "you get to play a squg herder" - so I bought the game.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Hello chaps,

Long time no see:(
I have just started playing this last night. I finally got to the end of my tether with AoC and funcom.
Good fun at the moment. I thought the cartoony WoW element might put me off but so far so good.
I'm on Karak Izor with some mates.

See ya

Looks like an interesting game. Don't suppose someone could give me a run down of it could they please? Never been a big fan of Warhammer but this looks interesting. Also, does this have a monthly subscription to it?

Yes it does.

I only played beta, but here's what i remember

For the rundown, think WoW but wih better graphics and more giggles along the way. RvR means much bigger PvP (poss 100's on each side) Questing is straight forward and gear drops from them is tailored to you class (no more getting plate helments for priests. Def has the tongue in cheeck feel of GW (spesh with the orc & gobbo classes)

Oh, and

I WANT MY CHOPPA BACK! (hurry up first big patch)

Got it as well  ;D

Any news on a FH\KoM server yet?

Probably need one for Chaos and one for Empire Order.

From the patch notes these are underpopulated;

Karak Ungor  Core
Karak Vlag     Core
Karaz-a-Karak  Core
Worlds Edge Mountains  Core
Clar Karond  Core
Finuval Plains  Open RvR
Mount Silverspear  Open RvR
Sea of Dreams     Open RvR
Makaisson  Core Roleplay
Ellyrion  Open RvR Roleplay

Yeh, I'm on sea of dreams with my lvl 17 disciple of kaine. Really cool class actually. Melee healer. I get 'soul essences" by striking my enemies in melee which I can then use to heal my allies with. And many life-leeching abilities as well which makes it a totally different playstyle than anythig in WoW.

So Sea of Dreams for Destruction (RvR) seems a good a place as any, thanks Flyagaric :)

Any nominations for Order (RvR) and a Core server?

There's an (EN) one that begins with Z that's where our order ones are (there's only one beginning with Z!)
I'll put my baddies on Sea of dreams

I am not around this coming weekend but I shall be playing a lot of this game I really like it. I didn't do any Wow at all last weekend - just fiddled around with this.

Didn’t you get frustrated with frequently getting kicked off the server and then long server queues? Or is the "z" server less full than SoD?

I’ll defiantly have to give order a go, witch-hunters look fun, as do most types of dwarf.

Post by: Naaman on 29 September 2008, 03:25:44 pm
Well Karak Vlag has low population so no getting kicked off or queues (some occasional lag issues though)  ;D

As for the Dwarves - is that a bearded affinity thing  :P

No - the techie problems were with Conan not WAR
This one seems to be OK. The only problem is that nobody seems to want to play a dwarf.
All other races seem ok

Requests taken as and when I make them so stick yer name down there  ;D

Two places to bookmark

WAR wiki - http://warhammeronline.wikia.com/wiki/HammerWiki

Allakhazam, good place for quest guides and NPC locations - http://war.allakhazam.com/ . They also have a Firefox search plugin, very handy.

And this page is just satisfying, check out the Banhammer in the side panel  ;D - http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsOverview.war

We have 4 of us now on two servers

Good guys on the EN one beginning with Z (it's the pnly one beginning with Z)
Bad guys on another called something like Karnak-Vlad

If somebody could put the right names up I'd be grateful - then I'l start selling these servers to teh other Wow players.

I'm still really enjoying this game.

I've got a high elf swordsman - nice
interesting mechanic - there are stages of balance the third being perfect which does the most damage.
Some swipes improve your balance but do less damage. Some worsen your balance but do more damage. Some swipes can only be acheived when you've got great balance.
It makes you really think about how long a fight is going to take. In PVP that's oing to be very interesting.

Goodies (Zhufbar)
- Chihiro (FM Elf Swordsman)
- Diggler (M Dwarf Tank)
- Fargo (M Human Fire Mage)
- Aguirre (M Dwarf Engineer)
- Asami (FM Elf Bow thingy)

Baddies (Karak Vlag)
- Kwaidan (M Tentacle thingy)
- Profondo (M Goblin Shaman)
- Narcissus (M  Dark Elf Healer)

We're slowly getting there I think.
I'd happily guild lead for the goodies
Any volunteers for the baddies -- John??

Not going to commit at the moment, I'll let the initial "ooohhhh, shiny" wear off before I commit so I'll shove it off to Brodski.
For the initial formation though I'd be fine with equal ranks for everyone as that should prevent the absconding leader problems ;)

But whatever, we need to get 6 people on at the same time to get the guild\s sorted, weekends are normally good by default but if we can sort out an evening that'd be better - I have tons of unneeded crafting stuff to dump into a guild vault.

So far we have Mark, Me, Piglet Brodski, Flyagaric and Rip so we can get it started once we get a time sorted.

Are we meeting in Altdorf (alliance) and The inevitable city (destruction)?
I am happy to be nominal guild leader for one of these - equal staus for all people we know INR
Brod -  u wanna do the other?

I am happy that I will stay with this game. I like it.
The reason I want to get organised is because the guild facility in this game is marvelous.
We even get our own Pub!!

I'd also be keen on choosing the name and banner. With Most Wanted we found that preperation is required for this as most obvious names have gone..

... and I am reluctant to join "Teddybears of Doom" or "WeLoVeBeEr"

Let's see if we can get 6 people at 3.00 UK time on Saturday.
Allthough we won't have to say "UK time" after that as our guild event calendar localises all timed events - yay!

But John continuity would have Destruction as "Most Wanted" !!

Although moot point as the name is probably gone.

Guilds have rankings also - don't know if you noticed...

OK we need a roll call and we need to get characters to level 4 areas (just follow the road in most cases)

So far I have Me, John, Rachel...

I can do Thursday or Friday night, just say when, and I can drag cmynett's character along but this for Order on Zhufbar, once we got it up and running adding people later is easy.
Not sure what level the vault opens up at Naam.

I'm happy to take as small a role as needed but please set the tax rate really low. If people want to give more to the guild they can set their own tithe rate.

Nice - and I notice that order are being encouraged to join Karag Vlad also which is also good.
The more balanced our servers the better the queing will be for BG's. I did notice that the premise of this game does rely on symmetry.

no suprise also that chaos is more popular than order

Oh :(

EA (and I assume D2D) go through the whole "install our special downloader" thing and then send you the key via e-mail. All that's left is to navigate atrocious Mythos site and your done....

Ah well - too late now. See ya Monday  ;D
