Title: Guild drink...
Post by: Naaman on 18 October 2005, 10:27:21 pm
Anyone up for one soon? I know it's short notice but if we can get together before CoV goes gold we can have a drinking session and a bullshit session for all the important details in one :)

Any takers for the 22nd, 29th or the 5th?

I'm going to be at home on the 22nd 'cause it's around the time of my siblings' birthdays. The other two dates should be fine assuming they're weekends, but again I have no way of getting to you guys.

Anyone up for playing taxi from Kent Uni? :P

Yeah - we call him Joolz ;) If you can get the train to his little provincial village that's just up and West from Canterbury you'll be here in 40 mins of Range Rover comfort

29th look good fpr people?

29th is fine with me Naam.

And yes, the 4 litre V8 supercharged taxi will be ready and waiting from Newington (just don't talk to me about mpg  ;))

Departure / Arrivals

Scheduled departure of sometime late Saturday a.m. / v.early Saturday p.m. and a return time to Newington mid / late Sunday morning.

29th is fine for me. I promise to make it there this time.

I will be coming from Tonbrodge by train Awe, so if you can't get a lift with Joolz you could just catch the train with me.

Don't worry, you will be safe. The Train station is concidered public. ;D

Bonus is, I know where to go from there to.

I assume it will be in the plough again.

Should I bring my laptop for some more late night fun on Sat night?

If you guys (joolz, Switfy) could let me know exactly what the plan is (by PM I guess)...

i.e. What station Swifty would like to meet at, and I'm guessing joolz would pick me up from Newington station?
I'll have to look into how to actually get there of course :P but how hard can that be.
For those of you who don't know the Kent Uni campus is in Cantebury, I don't think it's very far from the station at all.

Can't do 29th, so no different than any of the other times I've tried to make it...

Awe,  happy to collect you from Newington station if need be.  Just let me know if you need a lift via this thread mate; otherwise I'll see you at Naam's place  ;D

I can't make 29th Oct, I'll be away for most of that weekend (which, I think, means I won't be able to play the CoV 2 day headstart, if they do launch on 31st :( )

Okay guys, things looking good for me attending this time around.

Current plan is to get taxi'd by joolz, need to sort a time out but should be fine.

I do have quite a few assignments to do at the moment, I'll try to keep on top of them so I don't have to work at the weekend. I'll let you know if there's any change.

Other than money, anything I should bring?

I assumed that meant I would be sleeping somewhere.

Guys, hate to say it but I think I have to cancel.

I have two assignments left to do for next week, but they're both pretty horrible and they're both worth quite a bit of the final mark. It's possible that I could do both and attend the meet up, but one of them is group work and frankly I don't trust the other people in my group to pull their weight...so basically I'll probably have to do the entire group project myself.

I'd really like to attend but these last two assignments aren't looking good. What's annoying is they're not the "I don't understand" kind of bad, they're the "that's an incredibly stupid assignment" kind of bad (you can even check them out if you want... http://www.cs.kent.ac.uk/teaching/05/modules/CO/3/21/assessments/Assessment1.doc parts 1 and 3).

Let's just assume I'm not going, and I'll let you know if that changes (and arrange something with Swifty...don't want to mess joolz about any more than I already have).

No probs dude. Just give me a shout and I will play the 'Is that one Awe?' guessing game on the platform.

Just one thought tho..... Would a pub table filled with computer people help this assignment not go a bit better?

 :D

Not a problem Awe mate.  Drop me a line if you need a lift and I'll call you on your mobile to arrange a time.  Otherwise we may / may not see you on Saturday, though good point from young Swifty...your assignments will certainly be, err, unique if we do them as a collective down The Plough  ;D

First off... ZM. you are a Bitch. Not quite on my level, but getting there.

Second:- How about I bring the questions, a dictophone and then we get drunk and discuss it. You can even call it research if you like.

Third:- Has anyone seen how many stars I have? Where did I get all those from?

Fourth:- Seriously dude, you're a bitch

C'mon guys, lay off Awe. I'm sure he'd rather come down than finish a project.

Instead here's a picture of what Swifty'll look like after the drinks ;)

More stars = More posts ----- It means I forgot to turn off counting your posts  ;)

Of course if this is a complaint I could always zero it for you? ;D I mean you're actually at the maximum right now, so you get the fun of collecting them all again! ;D How's that sound? ;D

(of course myself and Naam don't go in for collecting those wee diddly little things... we have big stars... ::) but then we pwn this board)

Dont drink Vodka. Your Google-Fu has failed you, Old-starting-to-smell-kinda-funky-one.

yay! Carthis is coming. Dude can you revert to Alex for the night? or they will be another Jon to get confused about. I get confused alot lately.

I love my stars as they are thank you, but thank you for informing me how it works. Soon I will need my 2nd 'Forum Haxxor' badge :)

And please leave me alone for a bit. Feeling a bit low as I will not be joining you all for the CoV launch.  :'( Need to go console myself with a big bowl of Ice-cream

and maybe a spot of baby eating.

Guys, I got that essay done quicker than I expected to - it was very painful though. I sent a message to joolz asking if a lift is still possible - Canterbury East station is a lot closer than the West one you see :P

So hopefully if it's still possible and if I manage to be competent enough to get on the right train (so that's about a 50/50 chance) I'll see you all there. For easy identification I will be wearing the following purple shirt and bandana. It would of course make it even easier if I dressed up in electricity-patterned purple and yellow spandex but unfortunately I don't have the hood and cape to go with it :P

Hopefully see you guys tomorrow.

Good to hear and we'll see you tomorrow ;D

If you check the Members Only (http://forum.forlorn-hope.org/index.php?board=16.0) section Joolz has his Mobile number posted. But it's easy enough to spot a Ginger in a Discovery

Yeah it's about the only thing that can see and be seen over the hedges alongside all those twisty winding lanes round Joolz' neck of the woods.... ;D

 :D  Oh you guys   ;D

I've sent a reply to Awe and advised him to get either the 12:49 or 13:21 from Canterbury East, which should get him into Sittinbourne at 13:16 or 13:46...providing SE Trains don't run their usual bollox service.

Consequently we'll be with you classy people in deepest Surrey approx 45 mins later...or sooner if I engage warp drive.

Later dahhlings...

Yet another development in the saga:

Turns out I got mixed up about the train stations and I'm actually closer to Canterbury West than I am to Canterbury East. So I'm going with the Swifty plan instead if I can get hold of him in time.

You may all give me a thwap round the back of the head for being incompetent if I get there :P

Bah, plan foiled by you hiding you email. KK I have put my number into the members only bit.

Can we get a new name for that? It's a bit seedy.

Just to let you know I'm home safe and sound. However I would like to note that Swifty lied and it wasn't a direct train back, I had to change at Tonbridge :P

Was great meeting you all, and I now know how to get to Redhill station and back, which will be nice in future. Have fun in CoH guys :)
